Carbon electrodes are used in electrolysis due to their competence as a conductor and the number of free electrons they have available for transfer. Not only is carbon an efficient conductor, it also has a very high melting point. This means it can be used to facilitate a wide range of different reactions.

Glassy carbon electrode (GCE) in aqueous solutions is considered to be an inert electrode for hydronium ion. 

Gold (Au) working electrode is chemically stable, is a typical working electrode. Gold Disk working electrode is most commonly used electrochemistry measurements, for e.g. Cyclic Voltammetry.

Electrode size is as shown in the figure. The gold diameter is 2.0 mm. and the Electrode body material is Teflon. The Outside diameter is 1/4(inch); 6.35 mm. with gold plated connector for connecting to system. The total length of the electrode is 100 mm
